Network Services will be performing maintenance on the Campus VPN network on Sunday, April 19th.
On Sunday, April 19, 2020, from 7 a.m. to 12 p.m., IT Services will be adding an additional private IP address range 172.27.0.0/16 to the Campus VPN to further expand the campus VPN IP pool.
Addresses from this new pool will be exposed as-is for on-campus destinations (no NAT/PAT for on-campus destinations). Off-campus destinations will go through NAT/PAT and map to the existing 131.179.156.0/22 address range. All existing VPN IP networks remain intact and operational at the moment.
New equipment is being added to the VPN cluster, replacing some older equipment that was added temporarily to respond to the COVID-19 event. This will have a net result of increased capacity while preserving campus IP space. After the expansion, the campus VPN will be able to support approximately 25,000 concurrent users, which is well above the current peak usage.
If you have on-campus resources that you restrict to the VPN, you will need to add 172.27.0.0/16.
To avoid any Campus VPN connectivity issues in the future, please update your Firewalls and Access Control Lists as appropriate.
Additional network to be added: 172.27.0.0/16
You can find the current list with VPN IP networks under "Campus Remote Access" on the NOC website.
Campus network coordinators have been notified of the upcoming network addition. If your network coordinators have additional questions, please contact ITS Network Services at noc@ucla.edu or (310) 206-5345.
If you have any questions or experience any difficulties using the Campus VPN outside of the maintenance window, please contact IT Services at 310-267-4357, or help@it.ucla.edu, and reference CHG0045994.
