CIO Message | January 2025

January 2025

Dear Colleagues:

I hope everyone is staying safe and managing as best as possible during these difficult times. Below are highlights of our recent accomplishments in collaboration with campus partners. For more details on each project, please refer to the IT Executive Dashboard.

  • The FACET program leadership began loading student FAFSA data, or Institutional Student Information Records (ISIRs), into the new Bruin Financial Aid system on January 21, 2025. The program will closely monitor post-go-live activities to ensure stability. The system will support the 2025-26 financial aid year, enabling students to submit required documentation for their financial aid applications.
  • The Bruin Connect and Secure team is progressing with the deployment of Trellix on devices that are not yet compliant, while also refining guidelines for personally owned devices. Efforts to discover and inventory university-owned assets are ongoing, with the team now engaging additional schools and units across campus. The Network Unification program, through March 2025, is focusing on network design, vendor selection, and implementation planning.
  • The Artificial Intelligence initiative has equipped 68 project teams with ChatGPT Enterprise licenses following the Call for OpenAI Project Proposals in late 2024. Focus areas include educational innovation, operational efficiency, accessibility, ethical AI, research and development, healthcare, data-driven decision-making, interdisciplinary collaboration, public sector engagement, and sports performance. Visit the Generative AI website for details.
  • The BruinBuy Plus Stabilization team continues to make progress in system and process improvements. One enhancement is the campus-facing irregular invoice dashboard, which provides greater visibility into irregular invoices and their associated hold dates. Your use of the dashboard has contributed to a reduction of over 60% in the number of past-due irregular invoices.
  • The deadline for the UCPath Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) hardening standard, set by UCOP, which requires the use of Verified Duo Push for login, has been extended to February 28, 2025. Targeted notifications, offering support and compliance options to users without a compatible device enrolled for MFA, will be sent starting February 3, 2025.

Thank you for your continued partnership in creating an exceptional digital experience at UCLA. Your support is invaluable, and I look forward to our ongoing collaboration.

Best regards,
