CIO Message | October 2024

Dear Colleagues:

I would like to share the latest update on our IT initiatives via the IT Executive Dashboard, with highlights provided below.

  • The FACET Program is gearing up for the November launch of the new Bruin Financial Aid system in preparation for the 2025–26 aid year, ensuring no impact to current aid processing. The first round of training for financial aid staff across campus has been successfully completed.
  • Bruin Connect and Secure conducted 85% of main campus site walks and 29 network design workshops with campus units, integrating feedback into the network architecture and design. Additionally, the team sent a BruinPost to faculty and staff on October 17, announcing the Trellix requirement deadlines through March 2025.
  • As part of UCLA’s Artificial Intelligence (AI) initiative, students, faculty, and staff now have access to Microsoft Copilot and Google Gemini. ITS has also launched a call for proposals, initially targeting IT Services and IT Strategic Partners. The next phase, starting on November 1, will open participation to all faculty, students, staff, and researchers. More details can be found on the Generative AI website.
  • A BruinPost will be sent out on November 12 announcing that faculty and staff can order a discounted Canva Premium license through ServiceNow. Those who order a license will receive it beginning the week of November 18. Please visit the Canva service page for more information.
  • UCLA met its Google Workspace storage target ahead of the November 1 deadline. We would like to thank the Campus community for your invaluable contributions to this effort.
  • The BruinBuy Plus Stabilization initiative launched an Irregular Invoice Dashboard, providing units with a clear view of outstanding invoices and resolution guidance. The team also conducted the first of three end-user surveys and held focus groups to identify further improvement opportunities.

I look forward to sharing more of our progress with you next month.

Best regards,
