Are you running a modern browser? Running your computer browser’s most up-to-date version is important for security protection as well as maintaining optimal website performance. Most browsers can be set to run updates automatically.
Updating Internet Explorer
Internet Explorer is updated through Microsoft’s Window update feature. If you’re regularly installing these updates, you should be running the latest version of IE. To verify the version of IE you are using or to manually install an update:
- Open the Internet Explorer browser.
- Click the Tools button in the upper right-hand corner of the screen.
- Select “About Internet Explorer.”
The window that appears will automatically check for updates as well as show you the current version of Internet Explorer.
You can select the “Install new versions automatically” check box, to have updates installed automatically. If you’re running an old version of Internet Explorer, visit IE’s official download page to download the latest version.
Updating Google Chrome
Google Chrome can be set to automatically install new updates as they are released. To verify the version of Chrome you are using or to manually install an update:
- Open the Google Chrome browser.
- On the menu bar at the top, click “Chrome” and select “About Chrome.”
The window that appears will automatically check for updates as well as show you the current version of Chrome. If you’re running an old version, visit Chrome’s official download page to download the newest version.
Updating Mozilla Firefox
Firefox prompts you when new updates are available to install. To verify the version of Firefox you are using or to manually install an update:
- Open the Mozilla Firefox browser.
- On the menu bar at the top, click “Firefox” and select “About Firefox.”
The window that appears will automatically check for updates as well as show you the current version of Firefox. If you're running a very old version of Firefox, visit the official Firefox download page to download the newest version.
Updating Safari
To get the most recent version of Safari, make sure the your Mac operating system is up to date. To verify that your version of Safari is the latest or update manually:
- Open the Apple menu and choose App Store.
- In the top of the window that appears, click the Updates button in the toolbar.
- Find Safari and click “update.”
If you're running a very old version of Safari, visit the official Safari download page to download the newest version.
